Christmas 2010 (Seattle) and Boxing Day (Minneapolis)

Christmas Eve 2010

In the afternoon, Chuck, Kyle, Ethan and myself went to the local cinema to see the Coen brothers' new film, "True Grit". It comes out in Australia on January 26. I recommend it. Not really a remake of the 1969 John Wayne western, so much as another adaptation of the same novel. And a nice job by "The Dude" Jeff Bridges.

Loomis Weekend, 17-19 December 2010

I've been to Seattle a few times now, and up till this year had not made it out to the "family cabin" at Loomis.

So when Kara and I were able to get 5 weeks off to have a family Christmas in Seattle, my father-in-law set aside a weekend for a "men only getaway" up to the cabin.

Seattle City Pass, Day 4

December 16 - Pacific Science Center, and our last ticket from the City Pass booklet.

The PSC is in the Seattle Center, right by the Space Needle and EMP/SFM. The original plan had been to do all three places in one day, but that didn't work out. So instead the PSC got a whole morning to itself!

Seattle City Pass, Day 3 (with pictures!)

Day 3 of our being touristy in Seattle: December 15. (apologies again for the late posting)

Today's destinations were the Space Needle, and the nearby EMP/SFM.

Seattle City Pass, Day 2 (with pictures!)

Today [original date of posting: 14th December] was our second touristy day using the Seattle City Pass.

Attraction #3: the Woodland Park Zoo.

Slacking off...

First it was because we'd get home at night, have heaps of photos to upload, and then have to be ready for the next day's adventures. So I got behind on posting. I got as far as drafting a couple posts, but not actually publishing them. So I'm going to get it done!

Good vs Evil

Thus saith Aragorn:
Good and ill have not changed since yesteryear; nor are they one thing among Elves and Dwarves, and another among Men. It is a man's part to discern them, as much in the Golden Wood as in his own house.
In these days of moral relativism, a lot of emphasis is placed on time; that particular ideas are tied to specific times and places, and that there are no absolutes that carry across time.

30 years : RIP JWL

Where was I on this day 30 years ago? I wasn't even born yet.

People are born every day. People die every day. But every once in a while there are those whose lives touch millions of others in the public sphere, and those tend to get remembered a lot more.

Lego

"Didn't you outgrow Lego?"

California

Our week in California was good. We were on very small planes for the flights down. Delta routes most western flights through its Salt Lake City hub, so we had a brief layover there. It was FREEZING cold in Utah. (One more US state I've been to!)

A New Blog

I haven't really journalled or blogged anything for 3 years. Since March 2007, to be exact. What's happened since then?

* Married my beautiful wife, June 2007
* Moved into our own place, November 2007
* Had a holiday in America, June 2008
* Got pregnant, mid-2008
* Lost a baby, November 2008
* Got pregnant again, October 2009
* Our son Evan Riley was born 18 June 2010
* Evan died, 22 June 2010 (It's a long story.)

That's 3.5 years in a nutshell...

And in between, I've been busy with work, but haven't really touched a pen, computer keyboard or guitar for any creative or writing pursuit. Which has bugged me.

I don't know what this blog will turn into. A place for mini-fiction experiments? Journalling about my life? Songwriting ideas? Or all of the above?

I just feel the need to write again.
